Kalanchoe needs lots of light. It will thrive in front of a South-facing window in the winter, and an East window in the summer.
Kalanchoe easily suffers from over-watering and should always have the time to get dry between each watering.
Kalanchoe will grow well in temperatures between 60 and 85 °F and needs to be protected from any drafts.
During the blooming period, you can add fertilizer once a month. Use a balanced organic fertilizer.
The more light, the better. If the plant looks leggy and thin, and flowers tend not to open, move to a brighter location.
Water thoroughly until water runs out the bottom, and immediately empty the drainage tray.
Kalanchoe usually will do fine in normal household conditions.
Avoid fertilizing during the winter.

Originally, this plant came from the tropics of Asia, Africa, and Madagascar. It was only in 1927 the plant was introduced in Paris and was discovered by Robert Blossfeld, a German seed merchant. From thereon, he introduced Kalanchoe as a houseplant, with the name of Kalanchoe Blossfeldiana. In the 1980, thanks to the Danish and Dutch breeders, Kalanchoe started to be known internationally. Nowadays, it's one of the most popular flowering plant in the world, with several different varietes growing around the world, and new colors and sizes. Kalanchoe is popular in China, especially during Chinese New Year, because it is considered to bring wealth and prosperity.
