Propagation
Pilea is easy to propagate. Once the plant has settled down in a house environment, sprouts will naturally start growing. By cutting these baby plants and planting them in new pots, anyone can turn his home into a personal Pilea paradise, or give a cherished gift to friends and family.

A lot of bright, indirect light. The best exposure for Pilea Peperomioides is an East or a North facing window.
When the top of the soil is dry. Good drainage at the bottom is necessary. Pilea appreciates being misted twice a week.
Pilea will do best with temperatures between 60 and 80 °F (15-26 °C). Large fluctuations should be avoided.
Once a month with all-purpose liquid fertilizer (20-20-20) diluted to half strength; less frequently during the winter.
No direct sunlight. Shears or blinds are necessary if facing South or West windows. Pilea requires to be rotated regularly to keep a nice even shape.
An indoor humidity monitor or a moisture sensor can help with managing humidity levels.
Temperatures below 55 °F (13 °C) and above 100 °F (35 °C) can damage the plant.
Feeding will stimulate sprouts growth.

Pilea Peperomioides was first collected by George Forrest in 1906 and 1910, in the Cang Mountain range in Yunnan Province, Southern China.
In 1945, Pilea was rediscovered by Norwegian missionary Agnar Espegren. While staying in Yunnan for a week, he obtained a live sample of the plant (probably from a local market), packed it in a box, and brought it to Calcutta, where he stayed for about a year.
Espegren arrived back in Norway in March 1946, with the plant surprisingly still alive. ​He started travelling around Norway and giving sprouts of the plant to friends. In this way, the plant spread around Norway, then arrived in Sweden, England, and beyond.
